Myakklemore the manatee was released Friday, Janurary 29th at the Manatee Viewing Center in Apollo Beach. He came to the South Florida Museum in April 2014 following three months of treatment at Lowry Park Zoo’s critical care hospital. He’s now been outfitted with a special tracking device and will be monitored by Sea to Shore Alliance to ensure his survival in the wild.
Since 2009 S2S has been collecting manatee use data at Silver Glen Springs in the Ocala National Forest. We are a partner of the Silver Glen Working Group which includes state, federal, and private sector organizations to enhance decision making for the spring’s wildlife and recreational usage.
