Native to Sarasota County, Kaley Cochran grew up wanting to be a marine biologist since a school field trip to Mote Marine Laboratory in elementary school. This dream led her to attend the University of Florida for a B.S. in Biology from the College of Agriculture and Life Science.
While at the University of Florida, Kaley served on many club executive counsels – including Vice-President of Diving for the university’s club swimming and diving team for three years and Social Media Team Leader for Gators for Charity: Water for two years. Kaley was also involved in research on Florida’s natural springs under Dr. Frazer. During this time, Kaley gained valuable experience; for example, what to do when your airboat breaks down in the field and even catching alligators and turtles.
Since graduating in spring 2016, Kaley has committed to interning with Sea to Shore Alliance in hopes that these new experiences will help her narrow down her interests while applying to graduate school. She’s excited to learn more about marine ecosystems and try new things in the coming year.
